Museum Outing

The trip to the museum was mediocre at best. It was interesting seeing the plethora of pop culture references on display and the vintage moving image toys but other than that I didn't see anything too inspiring. The most intriguing thing at the museum was the machine that displayed what looked like water balloons becoming footballs becoming something else, and that mechanism was never explained so I'd still want to know more. Other than that, the modern media section wasn't as interesting as people hyped it up to be. It showed mostly things I had seen before and didn't really explain anything besides this day and age being the greatest time to create media using your own platform which most people already know. The set and costume design were both things I could appreciate but not something I was inherently interested in. The tour itself seemed to be more forcibly interactive and felt a little lackluster but I appreciate the level of appreciation the tour guides had for...

Hong Kong Exchange Film Festival

The Hong Kong films completely blew Hunter's films out of the water. From production value to composition, almost every aspect was superior and more interesting to watch. One could argue that the Hunter films, being mainly documentaries were less engaging and drew less attention but even the Hong Kong documentary, " The Yellowing " felt far more emotional and well done. While the Hunter films followed the stories of individuals, " The Yellowing " followed an entire movement and still managed to connect with far more individuals and bring their stories and emotions to light in a manner that left me as an audience member fully captivated and wanting to see more. The Hunter documentaries felt almost shallow, well put together but not much substance, and certainly didn't leave me with the same emotional connection the Hong Kong films did. I can recall several shots and sequences from the Hong Kong films that amazed me but none of the sort from the Hunter documen...

South Ozone Soundwalk

The air is crisp, wind stinging my face with cold as it drives by. I close my eyes as a walk down the block, attempting to focus on the sounds around me. The purr of an engine catches my ear as a car flies down the road. I don't know much about cars. I can tell the bus went by since it sounds heavier. The doors open about a block away, wheezing open and closed again as it continues its journey to the airport. At this point I've reached the park and i sit down on the swings. The creaking of metal is a sound I've become familiar with, more so in recent years as I've gotten heavier and the chain links screech until i reach full momentum. It's easy after years of swinging to close my eyes and immerse myself in the world around me without paying much attention to my speed and height. The first thing I hear is two women walking by me, I assume they find a bench since i don't hear the slow grind of the swing chains anywhere else. They speak to each other in a language ...

Artist's Statement

My motivation? Our future.       When I was younger the first movie i can remember watching was Kung Fu Hustle. It gave me my first sense of a comical yet emotionally provocative narrative and was my original inspiration for wanting to do something with english (screenwriting) or film itself. Deep within me has always sat the desire to produce a work of art that rivals those of my favorite directors such as Wes Anderson. Tarantino, and Stephen Chow. This desire, however, was only the beginning of my eventual realization that what I truly wanted was to be able to create something that could inspire people and spark that same sort of aspiration of my youth to ignite passion in the hearts and minds of those who witnessed my work. I wanted people to be proud of me and to have me and my work as something to look up to in the future. For years these dreams of mine sat dormant in my heart, suppressed by the idea that it wouldn't be "real" work and I'd need to pursue some...
