Artist's Statement

My motivation? Our future.

When I was younger the first movie i can remember watching was Kung Fu Hustle. It gave me my first sense of a comical yet emotionally provocative narrative and was my original inspiration for wanting to do something with english (screenwriting) or film itself. Deep within me has always sat the desire to produce a work of art that rivals those of my favorite directors such as Wes Anderson. Tarantino, and Stephen Chow. This desire, however, was only the beginning of my eventual realization that what I truly wanted was to be able to create something that could inspire people and spark that same sort of aspiration of my youth to ignite passion in the hearts and minds of those who witnessed my work. I wanted people to be proud of me and to have me and my work as something to look up to in the future. For years these dreams of mine sat dormant in my heart, suppressed by the idea that it wouldn't be "real" work and I'd need to pursue something else to make money to support my family. Then came along Lizet.

Lizet isn't their first name but we both agree it sounds way cooler. I met Lizet some time ago when we were both relatively in a bad place. Over the course of four years we grew closer and closer together and we both began dreaming of a future with each other in it. Our future. Even before we became partners, Lizet convinced me that I should follow my dreams of adventuring the world, and finding a job that wasn't all about the money and instead something I wanted to pursue. I began to open up to them and our passions coincided, two people who wished for a better world and a life together.

Slowly I delved deeper into films and learned that I could have the power to create change in this world with what I put on the screen. With Lizet's help I began to learn about the true injustices of this world. So many people are in need of representation and change and no one is willing to talk about it and bring their crisis to a larger audience. Who will know the plight of those seeking justice in this world if no one is there to witness and tell their story? Along with narrative driven fiction pieces, helping these people who have no one else is one of my biggest goals for the future.

Lizet helped put me on the track I am now, the one track I want to be on.  Making and being a part of films that are true to myself is something I've always wanted to do and been so passionate about. I'm so grateful I can do it with my greatest passion at my side holding my hand all the way through. This isn't just my passion, it's our future.
